NOT even Racing NSW stewards could dampen Kathy O'Hara's spirits at Warwick Farm yesterday. O'Hara became the first woman in NSW to outride her claim with her 60th city winner.

The jubilation was evident on O'Hara's face as she crossed the line first on the Guy Walter-trained We'll See ($2.60 favourite) in the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap.

But a half-hearted punch of the air to celebrate before crossing the line attracted the attention of stewards, who fined her $200.

"It's a safety issue," acting chief steward Marc Van Gestel told O'Hara.

Rival jockey Glen Boss congratulated O'Hara and couldn't believe she had been fined. "It was worthy of a $10 fine compared to what I do," said Boss, who has a list of misdemeanours as long as his arm due to wild celebrations. "I'm up to the $1000 mark when I get fined. What Kathy did was nothing."

O'Hara, 20, finishes her apprenticeship on Sunday. She began with Peter Nestor at Dubbo before progressing to Gwenda Markwell at Kembla Grange.

O'Hara was the first woman to win the Sydney apprentices' premiership when booting home 24 winners in 2004-05. Last season she finished third behind Tim Clark with 28 wins.

O'Hara was also the first female apprentice to ride in a Caulfield Cup when partnering the Walter-trained Wild Iris to an unplaced effort last year.

She came close to winning a group 1 when second aboard Walter's Johan's Toy in last year's Epsom Handicap.

"It's a great achievement, one which she really deserves," Walter said of O'Hara outriding her claim. "I've always said she is a tremendous talent."

O'Hara said: "I'm stoked. I couldn't think of anyone better to ride [the 60th] for. Guy has been fantastic to me along with Wendy [Walter]. They are great people."

O'Hara had been stuck on 59 wins for most of the month and said: "I think I've had seven seconds out of my last 40-something rides. It's a real relief."

O'Hara said things would get tougher now she couldn't utilise an allowance - as well as being a fully fledged rider next week.

"I've moved up to Sydney now and I ride [trackwork] here [at Warwick Farm] on a Tuesday and Saturdays as well and I ride twice a week at Randwick.

"I'll just keep working hard and hopefully get the rides."

Jockey Darren Beadman was ill and did not ride at Warwick Farm yesterday. Two of Beadman's mounts, Cocoruru and Reverenza, scored with Hugh Bowman and Rod Quinn aboard respectively. Beadman will this weekend compete in a jockeys series in Japan.

Jim Cassidy was suspended for six meetings when found guilty of careless riding aboard Humma in the AJC Convention Centre Plate.

* A request by embattled jockey Kieren Fallon to ride at the international meeting in Hong Kong on December 10 has been denied by the HKJC. Fallon is banned from riding in Britain and the US but can ride in Ireland pending charges over allegations he conspired to defraud Betfair. Fallon was allowed to ride in Melbourne in the spring carnival.
